What think ya'll about the rise of a third part? One that is legitimate and reaches out to us who feel forsaken by both parties?
(again moderate here, voted for Bush in the last election, voted for both Democrats in the Virginia Senate and House this go around)
It's already been done, or at least tried... by the Democratic party. It's impossible to include everyone, you start stepping on everyone's toes.
The only reason the Democrats took over both the House and the Senate is because of the fubard state the Republicans have left things in. Except for the hardcore democrats who think the Constitution of the DNP is as valuable as the Ten Commandments are to a Christian, no one really likes them. People latch onto individual issues that the Democratic espouses (minority rights, minimum wage raise, gay marriage, everything else).
What makes the Republican party work is that they are pretty stout on what they believe.
It's like the US voting goes in cycles. Republicans for morality, Democrats to set the power hungry in straight, then republicans go back in to prevent radical changes, and the cycle goes on. It's the best you can hope for in the two party system.
The purpose of 3rd parties is to inform Democrats what other issues they need to take up so they can swing more votes over to their side.
Go Wahoos!
Go Mounties!
